one of the alltime bustouts...13 years, last played 07-28-1973

seemed to be a bigger deal than the St. Stephen 83 or the Dark Star/ Attics show from 89

There was a big tensional build-up for Stephen among the tour rats, Box came out of nowhere. Total surprise!

Those Dead breakouts were insane, all subsequent versions were tepid compared to the first one. Same with Stephens in '83.

BTW, I saw the first three times they played Box and both of the East coast Stephens. You really had to be there to understand what happened(or didn't happen) inside those buildings...and that was 99.9999999999999999999% of a Dead show. We now get to enjoy the 0.00000000000000001% that remains. Thank God we have that.

The Stephen thing had a bunch of psycho-drama involved. I know several people who were almost suicidal that they missed it. They were certain they had been abandoned by the Dead, or some other religious analogy.

Yea was there for the east coast Stephens and the box - great feelings.

Missed the unbroken chain breakout by a day - one I wish I had been at that one.

I had heard stories of people breaking down in the parking lot for leaving early on 09-03-88 and missing the Ripple encore...hilarious...I'm sure missing St. Stephen created some melt-downs and quite a few tear soaked tie dyes...

That darn Ripple encore was the worst thing they ever did. It forced us to stay to the end of a show to hear I fought the Law or some other waste of time song.

there were a lot of "it sucked anyway" responses.

Maybe it did and maybe it didn't...but who really cares when the walls caved in.

The Garden tipped on end.

The Mothership almost exploded.

Agreed, Stratocaster... even a few days later in Philly, everyone knew it was coming... and it still felt like a big deal.
